Spring break 2027: why the dates vary so much
From one district to the next, spring break can fall in early March or late April. The reason is local, not a national rule.
There is no national spring break in the United States. Each district sets its break based on the number of instructional days its state requires, snow make-up days and end-of-year testing.
In practice, most districts place the break between mid-March and late April. Southern districts often start earlier; Northeastern districts wait longer to get past the snow season.
Two neighboring districts can therefore be a week apart, which complicates family travel plans. The official date is always on the district calendar, never on an aggregator site that does not show its source.
Before booking a trip, check the district calendar, then check it again in January: snow make-up days added during the year can shift the week.
